The wood pieces were the remnants from a six foot praying hands sculpture that was created for Asbury University as a gift and prayer from Carlos Velasquez, a sculptor from Columbia. The pile of wood represented the community as a whole as well as each individual.
The wood was marked with the date of the final procession 12.10.11, and the infinity symbol. Individuals 'make their mark' on the wood, choosing to do whatever they wish in personalizing their unique piece. The possibilities were infinite. They were invited to bring their piece to the final procession.
